It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a club stalwart, Beryl Trussell.
Beryl was a former men's team manager and hurdles coach and she passed away last Friday 8th September in St. Catherine's hospice. Beryl in her competitive days won an international vest for great Britain racing over the sprint hurdles, before becoming a coach, where she coached athletes over both sprint hurdles and 400 hurdles.
It was Beryl that first introduced me to the club. As a team manager, in the late 1970s to early 1980s, Beryl was the men's team manager taking the men from Southern Men's league Division 3 to promotion through to Division 1. It could be said that it was Beryl who started Crawley's mens march towards the British Athletics League.
Can we please join together in thanking Beryl for her service to our club and may she rest in peace.
Dave Buckett, Crawley Athletic Club Chair.
